Correction and Retraction

Correction and Retraction

SJDGGE (Sumatra Journal of Disaster, Geography and Geography Education) maintains the integrity of the scholarly record by addressing corrections and retractions in accordance with the Committee on Publication Ethics (COPE) retraction guidelines.

Correction (Erratum/Corrigendum)

Corrections are published when errors are identified that do not affect the validity of the results or conclusions—for example, errors in author names or affiliations, mistakes in tables/figures, or incorrect references. A correction notice is published and linked to the original article; the corrected version of the article includes a note regarding the correction.

Retraction

An article may be retracted if:

  1. There is clear evidence that the findings are unreliable due to serious errors or the fabrication/falsification of data;
  2. There is evidence of plagiarism or redundant (duplicate) publication;
  3. There has been a violation of research ethics, copyright, or legal requirements;
  4. There is an unresolved dispute regarding authorship.

Retracted articles remain in the journal archive, clearly marked as “RETRACTED,” and are accompanied by a retraction statement explaining the reasons for the retraction and the party requesting it. Article metadata is not removed, in order to preserve the integrity of the scholarly record.

Expression of Concern

In cases where an investigation is ongoing or evidence is inconclusive, the editorial board may issue an “Expression of Concern,” which will be linked to the relevant article.

Decisions are made by the Editorial Board following the procedures outlined in the policy on Alleged Research Misconduct and are communicated to the authors prior to publication.
